Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist and presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel at 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of notable stories, including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and arms control. Mitchell traveled together with President Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss matters such as the Iran Contra scandal.
